Eine neue Eurycaulus-Art aus der algerischen Sahara (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Opatrinae)

Abstract

The tenebrionid species of Eurycaulus from the Algerian Sahara, E. (Scleronimon) koestlini n. sp. (URSULA SEITZ-KöSTLIN leg.) is described as new. The interesting novelty is defined by the following combination of characters which separate it from all its congenerics known at present: Anterior border of the epistom as broad as the head at the level of the eyes; pronotum very transverse, with pronounced lateral parts and with maximal width in the posterior half; elytra strongly convex, rounded in the anterior part, pointed posteriorly, with irregular minute granulation and without patterns of stripes or series of points.

Se describe un nuevo Eurycaulus del Sáhara argelino, E. (Scleronimon) koestlini n. sp. (URSULA SEITZ-KöSTLIN leg.), interesante novedad definida por la siguiente combinación de caracteres que le seperan de todos sus congéneres hasta el presente conocidos: Borde anterior de las mejillas al mismo nivel que el de los ojos; el pronoto muy transverso, de lados explanados y con la máxima anchura en su mitad posterior; los élitros fuertemente convexos, redondeados en su mitad anterior, acuminados en la posterior, con granulación diminuta e irregularmente dispuesta y sin trazas de estrías ni series de puntos.

Die interessante Neuigkeit zeichnet sich durch folgende Merkmals-Kombination aus, die sie von allen bislang bekannten Gattungsvertretern trennt: Vorderrand des Epistom so breit wie der Kopf in Höhe der Augen; Pronotum stark quer, mit deutlich abgesetzten Seiten und mit maximaler Breite in der hinteren Hälfte; Elytren stark konvex und gerundet in der vorderen Hälfte, hinten zugespitzt, mit irregulärer feiner Granulierung und ohne Spuren von Streifen oder Punktreihen.
